One of the most difficult challenges we face when we discover our true selves, is believing we can become the person we see inside. All of our current boundaries and limitations rush before our eyes and everything we found completely possible during meditation, suddenly feels like a joke.

Sure, traveling the world would be amazing, but in reality, there are bills to be paid and piles of laundry to be done. Being a CEO is what you’re made for, but right now you’re a secretary with a high school education.

It can feel almost insulting to have dared to dream.

I’ve mentioned before that belief is everything when it comes to transforming your life, because what one man can do another can do. But there is a specific belief that has gotten me further and at a faster pace, than I ever believed possible, and that is why I recommend it so heartily. That belief is knowing that you have the ability to learn anything.

Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right. Click To Tweet

Many times when we are faced with an opportunity that is beyond or outside of our current knowledge, we turn it down, believing we are not capable of the task. But when you believe you can learn anything, you will be able to accept, and even pursue opportunities much further down the road towards your dreams.

In my own life, I have learned web design, alternative medicine, educational philosophy, construction (blueprints, building materials, hardware lines, resin manufacturing, substrates), graphic design, marketing, life coaching, speaking, meditating, how to grind my own wheat and make bread from a sourdough starter (that I also learned to make), how to travel with children, professional writing, etc… and all without a college degree. I simply looked up the information I needed, and learned it.

When I needed to know something new in order to take an opportunity, I held fast to my belief that I could learn anything, and I accepted the challenge.

I’m not telling you these things to toot my own horn. I’m merely wanting you to see that it’s possible to learn.

I’m also not saying it’s easy. Believe me when I say I’ve sat crying at a table in front of a computer while I tried to wrap my mind around web design, html code, and plugins knowing there was a deadline creeping up on me. But I did it. And because I did it, I moved forward.

Every time I am faced with something beyond me, I initially want to fluff it off and consider it “just not for me”, but I’ll inevitably be faced with the question, “Can I learn this?” And almost always the answer is yes.

So I want you to return to your Evaluations, remember who you are in truth, and ask yourself a new question. Instead of saying, “Can I do this?” I want you to say, “How can I do this?” And then believe in your ability to become more than you are right now.

Anything you need to know can be learned. You just have to wake up the old brain and get it running again. Hell, now days you can watch You Tube videos with step by step guides for doing anything.

I know it’s scary, and even completely overwhelming, but even the largest and most complex pieces of knowledge can be learned one step at a time. Take it slow, go at your own pace, and have patience with yourself. Some things take longer than others, but anything can be known.

Believe in your ability to learn, and you will.

  1. I am “right here with you” — a desire to keep learning! And I have spent more frustrated, tearful days than I care to admit trying to figure out something that others can do in a few minutes. But I’m learning. :)

  2. That is so true. Perception can be reality and when you believe in success, you achieve it. Sadly, the reverse is true. It’s changing the mindset. Great post, Tara. Tweeting.

    1. Hi Kelly,
Thanks for the comment and tweet. I agree that the opposite is true as well. It’s all about how we think.
